about

*The Attention Economy* coined by psychologist Herbert A. Simon, is referred to by physicist Michael Goldhaber, to describe one of the most finite resources in the world, and that is human attention. To describe its scarcity, every single action we take — calling our grandparents, cleaning up the kitchen or, scrolling through our phones — is a transaction. We are taking what precious little attention we have and diverting it toward something. This is a zero-sum proposition, he realized. When you pay attention to one thing, you ignore something else.
The theme of *The Attention Economy* is the motivation behind the stream of internet chatter that connected users are bombarded with, endlessly, each day. Texts, emails, podcasts, ads, TikTok, Reddit, notifications from Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Uber, Lyft, etc. place enormous demands on our attention which, over time, degrades in availability and quality. I created TAE to, ironically, bring attention to this zero-sum proposition. Enjoy these two pieces and expect a full album by late March 2021.
